Emma Young makes earthy forms, from the practical and playful, through to sculptures inspired by worlds unseen.

Her clay work is often substantial and visually strong, contrasted by refined glaze finishes, that combine to define the spaces around them.

Emma’s journey began on the potter’s wheel but quickly evolved once she discovered the possibilities of handbuilding using coils and slabs, pushing the boundaries of clay’s strength and resilience to the firing process.

Many works are finished with her own unique glazes, developed through experimentation in recipe and application.

Emma’s collections span sculptural pieces suitable as features in private homes and venues, mid-century-inspired vases, less traditional, organic and whimsical vessels, and a considered range of functional bowls — from dedicated ramen and pasta bowls to everyday table pieces.

She also makes miniature versions of her larger pieces - playful work that feels compelling to hold, lightening the mood of any room they inhabit.

Emma works from Botany on Bidjigal Land.
